Nail art has spread like wildfire among celebrities, and leading them on the red carpet is Zooey Deschanel with her playful nail designs. You may recall her formal tuxedo ladyfinger at the Golden Globes last January, but for the Emmy Awards, Zooey paid homage to the small screen with miniature retro TVs painted on her thumbs. Tom Bachik, L’Oreal Paris Consulting nail expert, explains the look: “We wanted to keep it soft and fresh [but sparkly], so we went with a soft summer tone personalized with glitter, Swarovski crystals, and hand-painted TVs on featured fingers.”

These mini-TV ladyfingers are easy to create. Let me show you how.

1. Start with Tweet Me, a light yellow, followed by a layer of Sweet Nothings, a soft peach, both by L’Oreal’s Colour Riche to create the base color

2. Create a small square using silver glitter polish within the center of your nail

3. Outline the square glitter shape with a black Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen– make sure to round your corners!

4. Add the details including the peg stands, antennae, and silver dots on the TV

5. Top it off with top coat
