MANICURE MUSE: Bibhu Mohapatra Spring ’13

When each year draws to a close, I like to reflect on all that’s changed. In January, I was working for a corporate fashion retailer with a nail hobby on the side. Now, my world is radically different. I am a full-time nail art blogger and an entrepreneur. I almost have to pinch myself to believe how it’s all evolved into the entity it is today. With that said, Bibhu Mohapatra’s Spring ’13 collection celebrates this concept of evolution and metamorphosis. The inspiration behind the collection was the Luna moth and how women are always evolving (Amen to that). The kaleidoscope-eque morph prints are beyond exquisite, but I also love the graphic lace dresses with the sharp overlays. This look, in particular, is feminine with a soft moth-like effect, yet sexy with the red angles. I am so excited to finally announce my partnership with Maybelline New York to show you how to get bold runway looks straight to your nails using colors from their 40-color collection: Color Show.

To emulate this look, I used Born With It, Audacious Asphalt, Pinkalicious, and Paint the Town by Maybelline New York, a nail art striper, and a dotter tool.

To get these Ladyfingers:

1. Start with one layer of Audacious Asphalt and one layer of Born With It to make the perfect base color

2. Using your striper and Paint the Town, paint a sharp diagonal line from the top left of your nail to the middle of the opposite side– thicken the line where it starts at the top left

3. Repeat on the other side

4. Duplicate the sharp diagonal lines just below the ones you already made, so they are parallel

5. Paint a shorter line coming up from the bottom left of your nail, bet let it end in the middle just below where the other lines meet

6. Repeat on the other side letting the tips cross slightly

7. Create another short angled line, this time stemming from the middle edge of the existing red lines– make the thinnest points reach the middle tip of your nail

8. Using your dotter tool and Pinkalicious, place dots sparsely around the nail to give illusion of lace effect

9. Top it off with top coat
