Living the polished life.

MANICURE MUSE: Mara Hoffman Spring ’14

The clocks moved backwards and all of a sudden it’s pitch black at 5PM. Suddenly a quick gym sesh is as daunting a concept as hiking the Grand Canyon (except without the warm weather) and all you want to do is dash home to into bed and catch up on Nashville. Sound familiar?  It’s called SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), but I have the cure. It’s hard to be sad when you look at Mara Hoffman’s Spring ’14 rainbow warrior collection. Bright happy colors made its way through tie-dye, tarsia-knits, and embroidered caftans beaming positive energy with every look. According to Mara, “this collection is about straight-up happiness.” Hey— can’t argue with that. Plus it’s even harder to have SAD when you channel your energy into something you love to do… like painting your Ladyfingers. It’s the little things. 🙂

To emulate this look, I used Paparazzi Don’t Preach and Hit the Lights by Nicole by OPI, Too Too Hot, Shake your $$ Maker and Bouncer It’s Me by Essie, Dance Hall Queen by Ginger+Liz, Pick Me Up At Melrose Place by NCLA, and a dotter tool.

To get these Ladyfingers:

1. Start with a full nude nail

2. With a dotter tool, start by dotting a curved ‘C’ in red facing downwards towards the tip. Connect the edges of the ‘C’ with straight lines to the corners of your nail

3. Follow within the center of the ‘C’ by making one in orange within the curve. Then make one in yellow within the orange ‘C’

4. Dot an elongated ‘U’ shape in green having both points of the ‘U’ reach the tip of your nail

5. Dot within the green space with a parallel ‘U’ of blue dots

6. Follow the curves of the shapes on either side of your nail by dotting with purple

7. Make a parallel line of blue dots next to the purple lines you just made

8. Tie the whole look together with black by creating two ‘C’ lines of dots at the top of your nail. Fill in the remaining ‘U’ space with dots and again at the sides

9. Top it off with matte top coat for a cool effect
