MANICURE MUSE: Trina Turk Resort ’14

Despite what the majority of the population believes, there are only so many ways to pull off the American flag as nail art… successfully. Last year I gave it a go (guilty as charged) and was excited about the outcome. This year I’m trying something a bit less obvious. There are tons of ways to play with red, white, and blue. There’s the Rodarte tie dye, the Isabel Marant sponge effect, or even the Chanel’s fragment look, but this year I’m going nautical. This Trina Turk look from her Resort ’14 collection nails both the Ladyfinger and the outfit inspiration. A matching striped short suit is the perfect outfit for wherever your travels take you– whether it’s your backyard or the Hamptons (where I’ll be).

To emulate this look, I used Blanc by Essie, Red by Color Club Art Duo, and Baker Street by Nails Inc.

To get these Ladyfingers:

1. Start with a full white nail

2. Paint 3 equidistant red horizontal lines

3. Paint blue stripes above and below the middle red line

4. Using a nail art brush, create very thin blue lines within the white space above and below the blue you just made. Repeat with red

5. Top it off with top coat
