MANICURE MUSE: Diane von Furstenberg AW’12

Last July I had the opportunity to attend the New York Times event, Times Talk, hosted by Diane von Furstenberg, Prabal Gurung and Norma Kamali [to read more about it click here]. Sitting among fashion leaders was an amazing opportunity, but listening to Diane speak about fashion and business was beyond inspirational. 

For Fall ‘12, her collection featured seducing dresses, bold color and a dash of surrealism. Among my favorite looks is this bold-printed comma? apostrophe? overcoat and matching skirt. Needless to say, this lady is my ultimate muse… and you can quote me on that. 

To emulate this look, I used Mitzi by Zoya and Vinyl by Orly.

To get these ladyfingers:

1. Paint one nail of your choice lime green and the rest black

2. Using a dotter tool (or a bobby pin), create dots using the opposite color

3. Paint a little tail along the dots using the corresponding color

4. Top it off with top coat

MANICURE MUSE: Honor AW’12

We all know who to turn to for epic wins season after season (I’m looking at you, Prabal), but they all had to start somewhere, right? Half the fun of NYFW is checking out the newbies on the scene, so, with that, let me introduce Honor designed by Giovanna Randall. This collection makes Honor’s third season and there’s no end in sight. Standout looks included the wool crepe dress series, a floral printed sheer gown and high-collared svelte jackets. While my favorite look was the drop-waisted sheer organza dress, this look was Miss Ladyfinger eye candy I simply could not pass up. 

To emulate, I used Mitzi by Zoya and a black nail art brush.

To get these ladyfingers:

1. Paint your nail lime green

2. Tape around the outside of your nail

3. Using a black nail art brush, paint short strokes (on one side of your nail) horizontally towards the center of your nail 

4. Repeat for the other side

5. Paint a black line down the center of your nail using the same short strokes as before horizontally

6. Top it off with Seche Vite Top Coat

MANICURE MUSE: Querelle Jansen in Pringle of Scotland for Exit Magazine

If this look reminds you of Balenciaga, I would tell you “you’re on to something.” The newly appointed design director of Pringle of Scotland, Alistair Carr has a resume that includes four years at Balenciaga, which would explain the sharp edge. The bold mock neck jacquard pays homage to 60s mod, while showcasing digital prints and technical fabrications. Fun fact: Carr was inspired by the fabric on the London tube. To recreate this look, I used “Mitzi” by Zoya, “Brilliant White” by CND World, and a black nail art pen.
